❓ 33 questions, plain answers

IPTV in Canada: everything people ask before they switch

These are the questions that arrive on WhatsApp every day, answered the way we answer them there: directly, in plain language, and with the honest caveats included. Jump to a topic, or read straight through; it takes about ten minutes.

🧭 The basics

What is IPTV and how does it work?
IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. Instead of a cable line or a satellite dish, the channels arrive over your home internet connection, the same way Netflix or YouTube do, but as live television with a normal TV guide. You install a free player app on a device you already own, enter your login, and the channels appear in a guide you scroll like a cable box. Our plain-language explainer goes deeper.
How is Vio different from Bell, Rogers or Videotron TV?
The big telecoms already deliver TV over IP; the difference is packaging and price. They sell fixed bundles on one- or two-year terms with rented receivers and paid tiers for sports, movies and other languages. Vio sells one prepaid subscription in Canadian dollars with the whole lineup included, on devices you already own, with no contract.
Is IPTV legal in Canada?
The technology is legal and widely used by Canadian broadcasters and telecoms. Streaming content you are authorised to access is legal; the law targets unauthorised distribution, not household viewers. Vio provides the delivery platform and technical service, and you are responsible for lawful use of the content you choose to watch. Read our legality guide and disclaimer.
Is IPTV worth it in Canada?
For households that watch live sport, want channels in more than one language, or simply resent a $120 cable bill, usually yes: far more channels for a fraction of the price, no contract, no rented boxes. For a home with slow rural internet or no appetite for using any app, it may not be. The free trial exists so you can answer this honestly for your own household.
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes. A free 24-hour trial with full access to every channel, sports feed and the VOD library, no credit card required. Request it by WhatsApp or email and test the service on your own TV and internet connection before paying anything.

💳 Plans, pricing & payment

How much does IPTV cost in Canada?
Vio plans run from $19.99 for one month on one device to $289.99 for a year on five devices. The best value is the 12-month single-device plan at $79.99, which is $6.67 a month. All prices are flat CAD rates with no activation, equipment or hidden fees. See the full price table.
Is there a contract or automatic renewal?
Neither. Every plan is prepaid for its term and ends on its own. We send a reminder before expiry and you renew only if you want to, for any term. There is no cancellation fee because nothing is running that needs cancelling.
How do I pay?
By Interac e-Transfer from your own Canadian banking app, with your order number in the memo. No card details are entered on our site; your bank handles the payment and its security. Activation is automatic once the transfer is matched to your order.
What if I forget the order number in the e-Transfer memo?
Your money is safe and your order still goes through. Our team matches the payment manually, which can add 30 to 60 minutes. Message WhatsApp support with your bank confirmation and we speed it up.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
Yes. Every paid plan is covered by a 7-day money-back guarantee under our refund policy, on top of the free trial before you buy.
Which plan should I choose?
One month if you are still deciding after the trial; three months for a single season such as the NHL playoffs or the NFL run; six months for the winter; twelve months if you have already cut the cord and want the lowest monthly rate. Pick the device count by how many screens watch different things at the same time. The subscription guide walks through it.
Can I upgrade to more devices later?
Yes. Message support, pay the prorated difference for the time left on your plan, and your screen count changes the same day.

📱 Devices & setup

Which devices work with Vio IPTV?
Amazon Fire TV Stick and Cube, Android TV and Google TV, Android boxes such as Nvidia Shield and Formuler, Samsung and LG smart TVs, Apple TV, iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, Windows and Mac computers, and MAG-style boxes. If it has a screen and an internet connection, it almost certainly works. Device-by-device steps are in the installation guide.
How long does setup take?
Two to five minutes per device: install a free player app, enter the login from your welcome email, and the channels and guide load automatically. Support can walk you through it live on WhatsApp if you prefer.
Which player app is best?
TiviMate on a Fire TV Stick or Android TV for the most cable-like guide; IPTV Smarters Pro for the widest compatibility including iPhone and iPad; IBO Player on Samsung and LG TVs without an extra box. All are free to install and all accept your Vio login.
Does it work on a Samsung or LG smart TV without a box?
Yes on most models from 2018 onward, using an IPTV app from the TV's own app store. Older models without a compatible app work perfectly with a $30 Fire TV Stick in an HDMI port.
Can I watch on my phone or away from home?
Yes. Your login works on phones and tablets anywhere with a stable connection, in Canada or abroad, and counts as one of your simultaneous screens while it is playing.
What internet speed do I need?
A stable 20 Mbps for HD and about 30 Mbps for 4K, measured on the streaming device itself. Live sport benefits more from a wired Ethernet connection than from extra speed. See the internet speed guide.

📺 Channels, sports & VOD

Does Vio include Canadian channels?
Yes: CBC, CTV, Global, Citytv, TVA, Noovo and Radio-Canada, plus CBC News Network, CTV News Channel, CP24, LCN and your province's regional feeds. The channel page lists the lineup by category and by province.
Which sports channels are included?
TSN 1 to 5, Sportsnet Ontario, East, West and Pacific, Sportsnet One and 360, RDS, RDS2, TVA Sports, CBC Hockey Night in Canada, and the US networks that carry the NFL, NBA and MLB, plus international soccer, F1 and cricket feeds. UFC, boxing and WWE pay-per-views are included as event channels. See the sports guide.
Can I watch every Canadian NHL team?
Yes. Each team's regional Sportsnet or TSN feed, the national Saturday and Wednesday broadcasts, RDS and TVA Sports in French, and US feeds for out-of-market games are all in the same guide.
Are movies and series included?
Yes, on every plan: a 200,000+ title on-demand library of films and full series in English and French, updated continuously, with no rental fees or separate movie tier.
What international and French channels do you carry?
French networks (Radio-Canada, TVA, Noovo, LCN, RDS, TVA Sports, TV5 and French VOD) plus packages from 40+ countries in Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Polish, Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese and more, all included.
Is there a TV guide (EPG) and catch-up?
Yes. Every channel has an electronic program guide set to your local time zone, and many channels keep several days of catch-up so you can replay recent programming.
What is the picture quality?
HD on most of the lineup and 4K where the broadcaster provides it, delivered adaptively so the stream steps down briefly instead of freezing if your connection dips.

🔒 Privacy, safety & VPN

Do I need a VPN?
No. The service works on any normal Canadian broadband connection. Some viewers use a VPN for general privacy or because their provider slows video in the evening; it is a choice, not a requirement. Our VPN guide explains the trade-offs.
Is my payment information safe?
Yes, because we never see it. Interac e-Transfer runs entirely inside your own bank's app; no card number or banking login is ever typed on our site.
What personal data do you keep?
Only what is needed to run your subscription: name, email, phone and the plan you ordered. We do not sell data, and our privacy policy describes retention and your rights in full.

🎧 Support & account

How do I reach support?
WhatsApp is fastest, with typical replies in 15 to 30 minutes around the clock; email works too. Support is in English and French, seven days a week.
A channel is buffering. What do I do?
Wire the device to the router, restart the router and the device, reopen the player, and check your speed on the device itself. If one channel still stutters, try its backup copy in the guide or message support with the channel name so we can check the line. The anti-buffering guide covers every fix.
I lost my login email. Can you resend it?
Yes. Message support from the email or phone number you ordered with and we resend your details within minutes.
Can I use my subscription in two homes?
Yes. A 2-device plan covers a city home and a cottage streaming at the same time; a 1-device plan works in either place as long as only one screen plays at once.
Do you have a reseller program?
Yes. Wholesale credit packages with a full panel, trials and backend support for anyone who wants to run their own IPTV business. Details on the reseller page.
