IPTV installation guide: watching in five minutes on any device
There is no technician and no rental box. Setting up Vio IPTV means installing a free player app on the device you already own, pasting in the login we email you, and pressing play. This page covers every device Canadians actually use, which app to pick, the one setting that makes the TV guide match your clock, and what to do if a channel ever stutters.
Understand your login: Xtream Codes or M3U
The moment your order is confirmed you receive an email with two ways of connecting. Xtream Codes is three fields: a server URL, a username and a password. Most players have a dedicated "Xtream Codes" or "Login with API" option, and choosing it loads the channel groups and the TV guide automatically. This is the one to use whenever your app offers it.
The M3U playlist is a single long link that contains the same channels. It works in almost any player, including VLC on a computer, and is the fallback when an app only asks for a playlist URL. If you use M3U, also paste the EPG link from the same email so the guide populates.
Keep the email open on your phone while you set up the TV; every step below is copy-and-paste from it. If you ever lose it, support can resend your details in a minute.
Amazon Fire TV Stick (4K, Max, Lite) and Fire TV Cube
The Firestick is how most Canadians watch IPTV: cheap, fast, and it turns any TV with an HDMI port into a smart TV with a proper guide.
Android TV, Google TV, Nvidia Shield, Formuler, Chromecast, phones and tablets
Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) smart TVs, no extra box
Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Mac
Laptops and desktops
Free and already installed on most machines. Media → Open Network Stream → paste your M3U link. Fine for a single channel; no guide.
The desktop version of the same app, with the full guide, groups and VOD library. Log in with Xtream Codes.
Some players offer a web version; ask support for the current link if you need to watch on a work laptop without installing anything.
A laptop on the cottage Wi-Fi counts as one of your simultaneous screens, so a 2-device plan covers home and cottage at the same time.
Which app should you install?
The player is the app that turns your login into a channel guide. All of these work with Vio; pick the one that matches your device and taste.

Set the guide to your time zone
After the channels load, open your player's settings and set the EPG time zone. It takes ten seconds and it is the difference between a guide that says 7:00 pm when the game starts at 7:00 pm and one that is always three hours off.
| Where you live | Time zone to select | Offset in winter / summer |
|---|---|---|
| Halifax, Moncton, Charlottetown, St. John's area | Atlantic (America/Halifax); Newfoundland (America/St_Johns) | UTC−4 / −3 (Newfoundland −3:30 / −2:30) |
| Montréal, Québec City, Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton | Eastern (America/Toronto) | UTC−5 / −4 |
| Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon | Central (America/Winnipeg); Saskatchewan (America/Regina, no DST) | UTC−6 / −5 (Saskatchewan stays −6) |
| Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge | Mountain (America/Edmonton) | UTC−7 / −6 |
| Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, Kelowna | Pacific (America/Vancouver) | UTC−8 / −7 |
Make it feel like the cable box, only better
Star your local news, your team's regional feed, the kids' channels and a few movie networks. The favourites list becomes the guide you actually use.
Do not need Portuguese or US local affiliates? Hide those groups in the playlist settings. A shorter list scrolls faster and loads faster.
Channels with a catch-up icon keep recent days available. Open the channel, scroll back in the guide, and watch last night's game from the start.
Lock adult groups behind a PIN in TiviMate or Smarters. Kids get their own group; everything else needs the code.
