IPTV on Multiple Devices in Canada: How Many Screens You Really Need

Vio IPTV cover graphic with plus sign — IPTV on multiple devices in Canada, sizing guide

Most Canadian homes do not have one TV and one viewer. There is the living room, a bedroom or two, a tablet at the kitchen table and a phone on the commute. The good news is that one IPTV subscription can cover multiple devices. The only question is how many screens you need at the same time.

This guide explains how simultaneous streams work, how to size your plan without overpaying, and what each screen count costs with Vio.

📱 Devices vs simultaneous streams

This is the part that confuses people most. With Vio, you can install your player app on as many devices as you like: the living-room TV, every Firestick in the house, your phone, your laptop. What the plan limits is how many of them stream at the same time.

🧮 How many screens do you need?

Think about your busiest evening, not an average one. Saturday during hockey season, with the game in the living room, a movie in the basement and a child watching cartoons on a tablet, is a three-screen evening.

HouseholdBusiest eveningRecommended plan
Single viewerOne TV, occasionally a phone1 device
CoupleTwo people watching different things2 devices
Family of three or fourMain TV + kids' TV + a tablet3 devices
Larger familyA screen per person on weekends4 devices
Multi-generation homeGrandparents' TV, family room, kids5 devices

Not sure? Start smaller. Upgrading the screen count is simple, and the free trial lets you see how your household actually watches.

💰 What each screen count costs

Multi-device plans cost much less per screen than buying separate subscriptions. Yearly prices in CAD:

Devices12-month pricePer screen per month
1 device$79.99$6.67
2 devices$129.99$5.42
3 devices$189.99$5.28
4 devices$239.99$5.00
5 devices$289.99$4.83

Monthly, quarterly and half-year prices for every device count are on the pricing page. The cheapest per-screen option is the five-device yearly plan, which suits large households well.

🌐 Your internet: the real limit

Each stream uses its own bandwidth. A plan for five screens is only useful if your connection can carry five streams at once.

Wire the main TVs with Ethernet if you can, and keep tablets and phones on a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Our internet speed guide and buffering guide help if streams start to stutter when everyone is watching.

🏠 Setting up several devices

Each device gets the same login details. Install the player, enter the credentials, and the full lineup and TV guide load. You can use different players on different devices: TiviMate on the living-room Firestick, IPTV Smarters Pro on an iPad. See our IPTV app guide and the installation guide for every device. Our team can walk you through each one on WhatsApp.

🧳 Watching away from home

Your subscription works anywhere you have internet: the cottage, a hotel, a hockey tournament weekend. A stream away from home counts toward your simultaneous screens like any other. If you regularly watch at a second property while family watches at home, include that screen when you size your plan.

💡 Tips to avoid "too many streams" errors

❓ Multiple devices: common questions

Can I use one IPTV subscription on multiple devices?
Yes. Vio IPTV plans cover 1 to 5 devices streaming at the same time. You can install the app on more devices than that; the limit is how many watch simultaneously.
What happens if too many devices stream at once?
The extra stream is refused or one of the active streams is interrupted until a device stops watching. Choose a plan that matches your busiest evening.
Can I use my IPTV subscription in two different homes?
A multi-device plan is intended for one household. Using it at a cottage, on your phone while travelling or at a family member's place counts toward your simultaneous screens; for two permanent households, two separate plans are more reliable.
Can I add devices later?
Yes. Contact support to upgrade your screen count, or choose a different device tier when you renew. There is no contract locking you into a plan size.
Does multi-device streaming need faster internet?
Yes. Each stream needs its own bandwidth: roughly 10–15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K. Three 4K streams at once need around 75 Mbps of steady bandwidth.
